Formerly the World No. 1, he is the highest-paid professional athlete in the world, having earned an estimated US$90.5 million from winnings and endorsements in 2010.

His multiple infidelities were revealed by several different women, through many worldwide media sources. This was followed by a loss of form, and his ranking gradually fell to a low of #58 in November 2011. Woods has broken numerous golf records. He has been world number one for the most consecutive weeks and for the greatest total number of weeks of any other golfer. He has been awarded PGA Player of the Year a record ten times, the Byron Nelson Award for lowest adjusted scoring average a record eight times, and has the record of leading the money list in nine different seasons. He has won 14 professional major golf championships, the second highest of any male player (Jack Nicklaus leads with 18), and 72 PGA Tour events, third all time behind Sam Snead and Nicklaus.

The line-up includes newly crowned U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, defending champion Anthony Kim, three-time major winner Vijay Singh, former U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair, and former Masters champion Mike Weir. Each are competing for the winner’s check of $1.8 million.

Tiger is making his 2012 PGA Tour debut and returning to this event for the first time since 2002 when he finished tied for 12th. The 2000 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am champion is looking for his first win on the PGA Tour since the BMW Championship in 2009.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is the celebrity component. Bill Murray may be the defending champion but all eyes are on Tony Romo, who is paired with Tiger Woods. Romo joins other football notables including Nick Saban, Aaron Rodgers, Bill Belichick, and Jim Harbaugh. Comedians Ray Romano and George Lopez make their return to entertain the crowds.

When Mary Pierce was playing for France in the 1992 Summer Olympics, she lost in the second round. Her father screamed at her so much that she ran to the locker room in tears. Later, while he was still enraged, he totaled his rental car. During the 1992 French Open, despite reaching the fourth round, Jim Pierce punched two fans who were ridiculing Pierce's play.
